Per Gessle: Roxette are preparing new abum

HALMSTAD. Roxette have already started recording a new album.
At the same time the band adds more concerts to the successful world tour that has started earlier this year - and continues in a big part of 2012.
- We have already started to record new songs for our next album that will be a continuation of "Tourism", says Per Gessle.

Per Gessle, Marie Fredriksson and the rest of the "new" Roxette have got 10 days holidays from the huge tour where they have played in front of an audience between 10 000 and 20 000 in South Africa, Russia, Middle East, South America and Europe.
We meet Per Gessle at the inauguration of photoexhibition with Terry O'Neills classical photos of the 60s at Tres Hombres Art in Tylösand.
The tour has worked better than expected. At home, in Sweden, it is difficult to understand the band's new future and the position on the lists of the single "She's Got Nothing On (but the Radio)" from the comeback album "Charm School".

"Like a karaoke-show"

- Some concerts are like a huge karaoke-show, the audience sing with them all the time, says Per's wife, Åsa, who has been with them during a big part of the tour.
There is a huge and faithful audience who have also made Gessle want give back his revenge.
- Me and MP (Mats Persson, earlier member of Gyllene Tider and Roxette) were in the studio in Halmstad yesterday and wrote a new song, reveals Per.
- The new album will be recorded during the tour, in hotelrooms, in local studios and during the soundcheck. Exactly like "Tourism" from 1992. All the material is new.
Will it be "Tourism 2"?
- We can inspire from it, for the moment the name is "2Rism".
But Per has looked in his archives and found old songs, like Stones and Bruce Springsteen also did and worked on them later on.
- Here is a song with Marie when she was young, before she got sick. We will use the song and will record new backgrounds.
Exactly as Stones did when they found a number of songs that remained from the classic album "Exile on Main Street" and Springsteen's "forgotten" recordings from "Darkness on the Edge of Town" that have been published later under the name "The Promise".

"Not easy to do powerpop"

- This future is a real bonus for us, we didn't expect this. We cannot compete with the artists of today like Lady Gaga or another kind of pop that builds up on beats, arrangemants and a visual idea. It is not easy to do powerpop 2011.
Anyway they have already played in front of more than half a million.
- When the tour is ready, we will reach 1.3 millions.
- After a number of concerts the people were really surprised that everything had happened live, no playback.
At the same time, USA has woken up and the band's early record company, Capitol, publishes two albums with Roxette.
- They publish a Greatest Hits-collection the same day when they publish our latest album "Charm School", says Per Gessle.
