Marie Fredriksson about singing the lead motive for the new "Arn"-movie

Marie Fredriksson will be singing the lead motiv song for the upcoming "Arn" movie: "Riket vid vägens slut" (the land at the end of the road).
The single "Där du andas" (where you are breathing) was written by no other than Anders Glenmark and Niklas Strömstedt. Now you can listen to "Där du andas" exclusively on!

For songwriter Anders Glenmark the idea for "Där du andas" came after reading the books about Arn.
Arn was banned for 20 years and had to serve as temple knight in the Holy Land. And just as long a time was spent by his Cecilia in a monastery. During all this time they never lost faith or love for one another. This is what the song and the lyrics got inspiration from, Glenmark says in a press release.

And very popular singer Marie Fredriksson - known from Roxette - jumped at the opportunity at once.
I liked it when Anders and Niklas played it for the first time, so it was an easy choise to say yes to recording it. And or course fun to be part of a Swedish monumental movie in this fashion, Fredriksson says in a press release.
World premiere for "Arn - Riket vid vägens slut" will be in Skara August 14, and in the rest of the country on August 22.

Marie sings title song for Swedish movie

Marie Fredriksson will be singing the title song for the upcoming sequel to last year's "Arn" movie. The song, "Där du andas (There You Breathe)," is written by Niklas Strömstedt and Anders Glenmark. Marie was asked to record the song and she says "It was an easy choice to say yes."

"Arn – Tempelriddaren (Arn – The Knight Templar)" is a 2007 epic film based on Jan Guillou's trilogy about the fictional Swedish Knight Templar Arn Magnusson. The film was released in December 2007 and the sequel, "Arn – Riket vid vägens slut (Arn - The Kingdom at Road's End)," will be released August 22 , 2008. While the films are mostly in Swedish and most of the production was made in Sweden, they are a joint production between Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Germany. With a total budget of around $30 million, it's the most expensive production in Scandinavian film history.

This song, as well as several others inspired by Arn, will be released on the album "Alla himlens änglar (All the Angels of Heaven)" on August 27. Anders Glenmark is the producer.

Other singers include Sonja Aldén, Uno Svenningsson, Helena Paparizou, Tommy Körberg and Fred Johansson. Composers include Anders Glenmark, Niklas Strömstedt, Mauro Scocco, Uno Svenningsson, Tomas Andersson Wij, Patrik Isaksson, Bobby Ljunggren and Eva Dahlgren.

Marie sends a message to all the fans!

We just received the following message from Marie Fredriksson:

Tack till alla som skänkt mig tankar, ord och gåvor i samband med min 50-årsdag. Jag blir så varm och tacksam och glad över att ni finns. Tack också för allt stöd de senaste åren - nu ser jag med tillförsikt framåt!

Soliga hälsningar från Marie

And in English:

Thanks to everybody who has given me thoughts, words and gifts in connection with my 50th birthday. I am happy and greatful for all of you. I would also like to thank you for your support over the last years - I am looking forward to the future with great excitement.

Sunny regards, Marie

Notes from Per!

Notes from Per:

1. "Elvis in Deutschland" was recorded about a year after the "Elvis in Germany" demo. I did it because I wasn't quite satisfied with the chorus of "EiG"!!! "EiD" has a totally different chorus (and different chorus lyrics) and is a ballad, sorta… but I went back to "EiG." A wise decision, if you ask me.
2. A different version of the "Every Day Outside My Window" lyrics was given to Marie a few years later and became her ballad "Every Day."
3. Same thing with "Beautiful Things, Terrible Things," which turned into her "Beautiful Things."
4. …and of course we're talking remastering here, I always felt that the original [album] sounds a bit too hard, we'll try to fix it now.
5. "Detective Jones" also exists with different lyrics, then called "Young", and was recorded by Staffan Öfwerman in the 1800s.
6. "June Afternoon" ended up on Rox's "Don't bore us" album but was meant for "TWATG" from the beginning. Micke Syd plays the drums and is brilliant. One of my best songs ever.
7. "Makin' Love to You" was written for "TWATG" too.
8. There's a demo for "Reporter" called "Writer." It's not on this album because it sounds almost exactly the same as the end result… besides the title of course.
9. The rest of the tracks were apparently also recorded as demos (it seems, I've forgotten most things) but they sound too much the same as the final album to be included. Why this snobism you wonder? Well, I want this demo album to be fun to hear for all the hardcore fans out there. As little as possible should be recognized…

Now the pizza is here! /P

Marie Fredriksson was born in a very small village called Össjö as the youngest of five siblings. The children of the family were raised to look out for themselves and each other. When Marie was young, her siblings would take care of her while their parents worked on their farm. In 1962, the family sold the farm and moved to Östra Ljungby. Her mother then got a job at a factory a few miles away from the family home and her father became a postman, delivering mail to the surrounding areas. Since there was no day-care center in the village, he often took Marie with him to work and during these trips he would sing to her to encourage her musical interest.

After the storm, Marie Fredriksson has chased away the disease and feels much better now than before. "I am more grateful now", she says.

Marie Fredriksson turns 50 today and celebrates with her family. She celebrates that she is healthy and she is working on the next CD and new paintings.

-- Congratulations, Marie. How it feels to be 50?
-- It feels good. Especially when it’s such a beautiful day outside. I have a lot to do. I am busy writing songs and drawing.

-- Will you have a huge reception?
-- No, it’s no good to do something big. I may have a big celebration when I reach 60 instead. I will have a quiet day with my family and friends and go away.

-- Do you like to travel?
-- Yes, I really think about a trip. And our children will enjoy it even more.

”Ordet är farväl”

-- You played two new songs in the collection disc which came out in Christmas. ”Ordet är farväl” has text by Peter Eades. How did this work?
-- She is a good lyricist, and it is fun to work with others. It’s been hard work on this song . I think “goodbye’ is such a beautiful word.

-- In the new "A table in the sun" you sing that the dark years are finally over.
-- Yes, it is wonderful. At last it's over. It is absolutely fantastic. It is good that the dark years, somehow, they went so fast.

-- You've got a different attitude towards life?
-- Yes, I am more grateful. It isn’t good to be in such a hurry. I live one day at a time. I love the spring as this time of the year, it is wonderful to just enjoy it. I had to hurry all the time before.

-- It is still must be difficult to put the disease behind you?
-- It is well on the way out. Mostly others are talking about it. I don’t talk about it anymore.

I like living

When Marie Fredrikssonreleased her first album it went straight into our hearts. A few years later her carrier went straight up as a singer in Roxette all around the world.
Now she is on her way back, but with a new understanding of life.

In the late teens Marie Fredriksson moved from the family in the south of Sweden to Halmstad. There she met, among others, Per Gessle.
She also appeared in few Gyllene Tider songs, but they had no major collaborations.

Instead, she did her own thing and penetrated the market with records like “Het wind” and “Sjunde vågen “. Her melancholy but still rock power songs and a voice that is both sensitive and strong at the same time (perhaps a legacy of the father Gösta which, according to Marie "sang just as Jussi Björling") went straight into the Swedish home and touched many souls.
In 1986, Marie and Per started to work together, and they formed the Roxette. After some years the success was huge and Marie became a world star.
With songs like The Look, Listen To Your Heart, Joyride and It Must Have Been Love, they enter in music history.

Tours lasted until 2001, with a gap of some years in the mid-90s when Marie get married and have two children. Otherwise, the success was tremendous with a busy schedule and millions of fans.
But in the autumn of 2002 Marie fell on the floor of her bathroom after a jogging tour. She was taken immediately to the hospital where doctors notice that she had a brain tumor.
We are now six years later and last summer she became healthy.
-- It is wonderful and I am fine. No more medication, but I have X-rays taken a couple of times a year. I will have to do this for a long time, she says.

Life changed drastically, and her attitude took a new direction. Now the family is the most important thing. And it’s good to enjoy everyday.
